Ken Berry always played the “nice guy.” He guest starred in two episodes of the Dick Van Dyke Show in 1964 and then the next year he landed a lead role in “F-Troop.” Following that series he joined the cast of “The Andy Griffith Show” and then took over the series the next year in the retitled, “Mayberry RFD.” Even though the series was a hit, it was canceled by CBS in 1971 as part of its purge of “Rural” shows. He also starred in Mama’s Family in 1983, a series that had only a year and a half run on the network, but six more years in syndication.
