The Beverly Hillbillies

The Beverly Hillbillies originally aired for nine seasons on CBS from 1962 to 1971. The brainchild of producer Paul Henning, who used as inspiration the people he had met while camping in the Ozarks and although panned by critics, the show was a big success. That led Paul to create Petticoat Junction, starring his daughter, Linda Kaye Henning, as Betty Jo Bradley, and bring in colleague Jay Sommers to create Green Acres. The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres were canceled in the famous purge of “rural” shows by CBS in 1971. Petticoat Junction was canceled the year before.
