From Season 4, Episode 2

Sgt. Friday and Officer Gannon discover their suspect in a double slaying is an ardent reader of stories about strange attitudes toward death.
Virginia Gregg was a favorite of Jack Webb favorite, playing roles in the original Dragnet in the fifties, Emergency and Adam-12. She had a long career in radio and guest roles in lots of television series. If her voice seems to have a creepy edge to it, she was the voice of Norman Bates “mother” in Psycho.
Ironside: The Past is Prologue
From Season 1, Episode 15
Original Airdate: December 7, 1967
After 17 years as a solid citizen, a man is recognized as an escaped convict.
This is one of those, “Before They Were Stars” episodes. Harrison Ford plays the son of a carpenter who is recognized as an escaped murderer. This was one of Ford’s earliest roles. He had a lot of small roles back then, but not enough to pay the bills, so, ironically, he learned carpentry to earn extra money. He did work carpentry work for George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola, which helped lead to roles in “American Graffiti,” “Star Wars” and “Raiders of the Last Ark.”

A powerful newspaper columnist who browbeat everyone around her is murdered. And a book containing the names of innocent people who could be slandered is now missing.
If you are a movie buff, the doctor in this episode will look awfully familiar. His name is Aurthur Shields and between he and his older brother, Barry Fitzgerald, they seemingly played every Irish character in Hollywood movie during the 1940′s and ’50′s. But in his early years he fought in the Irish Easter Uprising of 1916. It was brutally put down by the British and Aurthur was captured and interned in Wales for a time. His first big movie break came in Drums Along the Mohawk. You might also remember him from a number of John Ford and John Wayne movies like She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and The Quiet Man. He was also featured in How Green was My Valley, Lassie Come Home and National Velvet with Elizabeth Taylor.

Jeremy Lloyd plays the upper crusted chimney sweep and he was often type cast as the snooty Englishman. He had cameo roles in The Beatles’ films, “Hard Days Night” and “Help!” He was also appeared in a number of “Laugh In” episodes and in one of the worst movies I ever saw, called “Salt and Pepper.” He is better known in Britain as a writer of several sit-coms.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Human Interest Story
From Season 4, Episode 32
Original Airdate: May 24, 1959
A newspaper reporter interviews a man who quite seriously declares himself to be from Mars.
Steve McQueen is the personification of cool. “Bullitt” is one of my favorite movies. At the time of this episode he was also starring as Josh Randall in “Wanted: Dead or Alive.” Considering how big a star he was, after the series ended, he was only featured in 20 movies until his death in 1980. FYI, Arthur Hill, who plays the guy who thinks he is from Mars, was a pretty darn good actor himself.
Flipper: Danger
From Season 1, Episode 14
Original Airdate: December 19, 1964
Hap, Bud and Sandy find an abandoned boat rigged to blow.
Andy Devine had a reoccurring guest star role in the first season as an “Old Salt” with a penchant for spinning yarns. Andy had already appeared in hundreds of B Westerns, often as Roy Rogers sidekick. But he was also in a number of cinema classics including the original “A Star is Born” and with John Wayne in “Stagecoach.” Then when TV came along, he transitioned easily into another 20 year career
