Primetime Monday 1968
What with the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., the war in Vietnam, the summer of riots and the election of Richard Nixon, it seemed as if the country were coming apart. As Jeff Grimshaw tell us below, television was now more than ever seen as an escape from everything the world was throwing at us. Perhaps we need that escape today too. The members of a society that watches Venus are dying one by one from something that turns them completely white, so Steed joins them to flush out the culprit while Peel chases a light that seems related to the killings.

Jeremy Lloyd plays the upper crusted chimney sweep and he was often type cast as the snooty Englishman. He had cameo roles in The Beatles’ films, “Hard Days Night” and “Help!” He was also appeared in a number of “Laugh In” episodes and in one of the worst movies I ever saw, called “Salt and Pepper.” He is better known in Britain as a writer of several sit-coms.
